Guardian Building
When I last walked Detroit I wanted to investigate the Guardian Building but visiting hours were ending. I resolved to return.
Four empties? That’s a LOT of liquor. Somebody had a great time. The moment after I took that photo, the Martelli bottle at the back blew off and broke.
The Guardian Building was named a National Historic Landmark in 1989. It was finished in 1929 and the lobby and hall garnered it the nickname of Cathedral of Finance. It has a Native American theme and is a great example of the Art Deco style of the 1920s.
It is hard to believe this grand hall with such unbelievably intricate work is also a bank. This floor has always been a bank since the doors opened, though. Originally it was the Union Trust.
The building is really amazing. It reminded me a lot of the Hoover Dam for some reason.
Next time I go I’ll bring a flash so I can get the colors truer to what the naked eye sees.
