Four Days in Guadeloupe for $944 a Person
I was always planning to visit Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Dominica on a cruise. My plan changed when Royal Caribbean cancelled the cruise to Cuba I had planned for February. When the cruise was rescheduled to January, I was left with airfare to Fort Lauderdale. I researched where I could go from Fort Lauderdale and all I could find was Guadeloupe on Norwegian Air. So I booked two round trip tickets. Below is what I paid for this trip.
Airfare from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale on American Airlines for two people booked August 11-$363.60 for February 16 departure.
Hotel one night in Fort Lauderdale-Element Hotel-free with Marriott points.
Rental car in Pointe-A-Pitre booked at go.easycar.com $197 booked February 11. I had reserved a car on Expedia in December and it was $100 more. Luckily, I found it cheaper.
Two tickets from Fort Lauderdale to Guadeloupe on Norwegian Air booked August 25 for February 17 departure-$636 ($318 each). I met people who only paid $150 per ticket by booking the tickets one year in advance.
One night hotel in Pointe-a-Pitre at Hotel Saint John Perse $103 booked December 10 on Hotels.com. I don’t recommend this hotel. Breakfast was ten Euro a piece which brought the cost up to $123 a night and it was kind of a dump.
Three nights hotel at Karibea Beach Hotel $368 booked January 6 breakfast included.
Airfare for two from Fort Lauderdale to Detroit on Delta for February 21 booked August 11 $182.
One quarter tank of gas for rental car $20.
Total spent excluding meals $1889.
I wasn’t too happy about spending almost two thousand dollars on a trip that I was forced to take because of Royal Caribbean’s cancellation, but I got lucky. American Airlines needed many volunteers on the flight to Fort Lauderdale. In exchange we went out later that night to Miami (Lyft to Fort Lauderdale was $28) and were each given a voucher for $800. So I made back $1600 on the trip. In the end it only cost me $289!
