Limestone Branch – Craft Bourbon Tour #4

When we left Willet, Greg and I decided we had time to head to another distillery so we chose Limestone Branch based solely on it’s proximity. Neither of us had heard of it but when we pulled in and saw the Yellowstone bourbon logo Greg recognized it.

We were able to walk into a complimentary (to veterans) tasting.

The tasting room looks like a church

We both were happy with the line up, except for the gin. That’s not really my thing. I tried to trade it for another pour of the bourbon.

Tasting lineup

I understand why new, or in this case resurgent, distilleries make gin but I’m not a fan. The young lady who conducted the tasting told us the history of the distillery. There were a number of Beam relatives who started their own distilleries and passed them down through the generations.

The copper container under glass is very significant

When the current owners attempted to restart the distillery they actually found samples of the original yeast strain in that copper container above. The owners were able to get a genetic swab out of it and found a living match to use, trying to recreate the original bourbon as much as possible.

Minor Case was actually a family member’s name

We shopped a bit and then had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The Bloody Mary they made with Yellowstone Bourbon was the best I’ve ever had. I bought the mixer and bacon salt to go with it.

Gift Shop
The cat did not care about anything. I thought he was fake.

While we enjoyed our cocktails on the porch we were able to look into the still room window and see what was going on. They will have tours eventually but they’re in the process of setting up some new ones.

Limestone Branch is in Bluegrass Region. The first stamp for that region and fourth overall.
