Tunisia Day 1

After nearly 48 hours of travel from Detroit we arrived in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia and the site of ancient Carthage

Upon arrival we visited an ATM to withdraw a wad of 20 Dinar bills and then experienced the typical “welcome to the country” chaos of getting a taxi to the hotel.  “I’ll take you for 30 Dinar” was quashed by the local cop who told us that guy was a scam and to just take the first car in line.

The gentleman at the Sheraton desk told us we should visit Sidi Bou Said.   “It’s blue and white like Santorini”.  With that ringing endorsement we fought off the jet lag long enough to see this cool area of Tunis.

We were of course subjected to the souvenir shops but we did find a solid ornament for our Christmas travel tree

We ended the day with a nice local Celtia at the bar before cleaning up and sleeping like the dead until morning.
