Treasures of Oslo’s Viking Museum

If you go to Oslo, one thing that is not to be missed is the Viking Museum.  I was blown away by the number of intact Viking ships on display and the detail carved into them. Most of the items in this museum are over 1000 years old. Much can be learned about the Viking culture.  Years ago, I visited the oldest Viking settlement in North America. This helped to get a deeper understanding of L’Anse Aux Meadows.

The most surprising thing I learned here was that many of the ships were used as burial ships.  The ships were buried with the dead along with food, animals, jewelry, etc..
