Border Crossing from Zambia to Zimbabwe

Crossing the Zambia border into Zimbabwe is a pretty easy process.

We paid 100Kw to take a taxi from the Protea Hotel to the border.  At the Zambia border, one enters the immigration building and gets a quick passport stamp out of Zambia. From there, one gets a new taxi that can drive across the bridge.  We paid 60 Kw (about $6) and shared the ride with another passenger to the Zimbabwe side of the bridge.

Important note–If you want to see the Boiling Pot, you can walk out on your own and beat the 625 steps on the trail in the Victoria Falls Park.  Taxis cannot stop on the bridge so make this decision before you get in a taxi and before you stamp out of Zambia if you want to see the Boiling Pot.  In order to see the Boiling Pot, enter immigration and ask for a guest pass.  People on bicycle rickshaws are available if you don’t want to walk out.  Upon return, enter immigration and return the guest pass.  It’s simple and free.

When you arrive in Zimbabwe, fill out the visa application and wait in line.  US citizens pay $30 a person for the visa. Make sure you have exact bills in USD. The bills must not have any marks or tears.

Once you have your visa, you get back in your taxi and you will be dropped off near the falls entrance or where you can get a taxi to your hotel on the Zimbabwe side.

The entire process took less than an hour.
