France in North America: St. Pierre and Miquelon

Located at Newfoundland’s southern tip are the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon. According to Wikipedia, “the Overseas Collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a self-governing territorial overseas collectivity of France, situated in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean near the Newfoundland and Labrador province of Canada. It is the only part of New France that remains under French control.” The islands are accessible by a 55 minute ferry ride for 70 euros round trip. Check the website for updated schedules.

I explored this little piece of France in 2000 before I had a digital camera.  It is a great day trip destination from Newfoundland.
