Terra-cotta Warrior Exhibit in Cincinnati

Cincinnati is hosting an exhibit of the famous Terra-cotta Warriors of Xian, China until August 12, 2018.  Tickets for the exhibit are $16 for adult admission and $8 for children.  Using the code “ONLINE” will net a $2 savings off a full price ticket.  The tickets can be purchased here .

If you’re not planning to go to China anytime in the near future, this exhibit does give one an idea of the significance of this site.  Considered the greatest archeological find of the 21st century, the warriors were just discovered in 1974 by a farmer tilling the land. When I visited in 2000, I actually had the pleasure of meeting that farmer as he signed autograph copies if his book. I wish I had taken a picture of him.

The site was the idea of the first emperor of China, Qin, for whom China is named.  Construction on the complex started in 246 BC, when the emperor was just 13 years old and was completed 38 years later. This  project was the emperor’s quest for immortality with the goal of extending his power into the afterlife.

Some of the items one can view in the exhibit are shown below.

Jewelry

I took the following pictures in Xian 18 years ago.  I want to give an example of the actual site that this exhibit is based on. The pictures I took are few and poor quality.  No photos were allowed at the site so I sneaked these few contraband photos.
