9 Essential Items to Carry While Sight Seeing

When I’m sight seeing, I wear a cross body bag. In that bag, I always ensure that I have the following items with me.

1. Small coin purse for my day money and a credit card.  If you’re based in a hotel, I suggest you leave your passport, ATM card, keys for home, extra cash and extra credit cards in your room.  Carry a copy of your passport with you instead. I’ve been locked out of hotel safes twice so I tend to lock these things in my suitcase if I’m out exploring for the day.

2. Tissue. Many toilets around the world do not have tissue available. Always be prepared.

3. Cell phone

4. Phone charger.  I prefer the ones that are ten feet long. If I’m charging up at a restaurant, it’s a lot easier to keep an eye on my phone with the longer cord. I top off my phone whenever I have a chance.

5. Sunglasses.

6. Pen.

7. Hand sanitizer-I can’t count the times I’ve touched something gross on my travels. Just the other day, I went to move a chair back in order to sit down  at a restaurant and found bird poop on my hand. Naturally, I washed my hand in the bathroom, but until I applied hand sanitizer, it had that “cheese touch” feel.

8. A plastic bag-Comes in handy if you buy stuff when out and don’t receive one.  I just used my bag last night. I was boarding a Spirit flight. Luckily, my son and I were sharing a carryon. Spirit told me that my handbag was a second bag and I would have to pay to take it on. I took out my plastic bag, put my handbag in it, gave it to my son who put his fanny pack in the bag and instant one carryon.

9. If I take my DSLR, I make sure I have extra, charged batteries on hand.
