From Detroit

Coney Islands

Did you know Detroit was known for Coney Island? No, not the one with the rides and the boardwalk. The one with chili, onions, and mustard.

American Coney Island

American Coney Island has been around for 100 years between Lafayette and Michigan Avenue. The triangle shaped building is such an iconic scene it’s even been featured in Ken Block’s latest Gymkhana. And, as you can see firm the sign above, they have a second franchise in Las Vegas.

I often stop here when I’m hungry, but I didn’t realize they had competition just next door.

Side by side?

I’d never heard of Lafayette Coney Island but they’ve been featured in Man v. Food. And they’re right next door.

How close!

I can’t compare because I haven’t been to Lafayette yet, but I’ll be sure to stop in next chance I get.

The two Coneys were owned by brothers for many years. Many folks would suggest that the competition of which one was better was just a joke because they were all made in the same kitchen with the same chilli.

Thanks for the information. So it’s really just one big restaurant.
