Day Trip to Namibia

When I was planning my SE Africa trip, I couldn’t help but notice that Namibia was in plain sight across the river from where we were staying.  How can I be that close to another country and not go? A Google search of “day trip to Namibia” turned up nothing but the name of a hotel that did the trip.  I called the hotel and was told that they were no longer doing it.  I refused to give up. I had booked my other excursions with Umkula Safaris so I sent them an email.  Their partner company, Flame of Africa, did the tour.  I was in luck! I was charged $50 a person.

We were picked up at 8:00 a.m. and driven to immigration where we stamped out of Botswana.  Waiting for us in the river was a small river boat and captain.  The journey to the other side of the river took about 20 minutes.  When we exited the boat, our guide was there waiting for us.  We processed through Namibian immigration and proceeded to walk to the village.  The walk to the village took about 30 minutes. The village tour was a neat experience and I’m glad I did it.

We waited for our return boat for quite a long time.  We were afraid we were forgotten, but after 30 minutes, our boat returned for us.

On the way back to Botswana, the captain drove us around and pointed out some wild life for us.

When we returned to Botswana, we again went through immigration.  Our driver was there waiting for us and we were returned to our hotel.

Given that there isn’t a lot to do in the town where we stayed, I would recommend this tour if you have an extra day in the Kazungula region of Botswana.
