How to Save Money on Spirit Tickets
The next time you book a ticket on Spirit’s website, think twice about making the purchase. If you are within reasonable driving distance of the airport, you may save quite a bit of money by driving there instead to book the ticket. It seems counterintuitive since Spirit charges a $25 fee to book with an agent on the phone, yet there is no fee to book with an agent at the airport.
In order to save the most money, it’s best to go to the airport with a buddy who will drop you off at the terminal and go wait in the cell phone lot until your purchase is complete. This will save you quite a bit on parking. You may have to wait a while because if they are checking in passengers for a flight, they won’t wait on you until the rush is over.
Saturday I went to the airport to book a few tickets. Detroit to Fort Lauderdale online for two tickets was $302.38. At the airport I paid only $262.40. That’s a total savings of $39.98.
This one is my favorite. Online two tickets from Cartagena to Detroit cost $393.46. When I went to the counter to inquire, I was told, “That fare is two cents before taxes and fees.” I knew I was dealing with Spirit so I didn’t get too excited over the two cent fare because I heard the key word “fees” from the agent’s mouth. Nonetheless, that $393.38 online ticket cost $361.08 after taxes and fees at the airport. That was a total savings of $32.30. In addition, the agent booked seat assignments for me for free. That would’ve cost me in additional nine dollars per person per segment ($36)-of course I never pay for a seat when I book online.
That drive to the airport took about an hour of my time, but saved me over $72 ($109 if you count the free seat assignments)! If you can book at the airport-do it.
