Cartagena’s Getsemani Neighborhood
Getsemani is beautiful area of Cartagena, Colombia that is often overlooked by tourists, yet it compares to the historic area in architecture. It is a bit more beat down from the walled city, but that adds to the charm of the area which is full of murals and color lined streets. It is a bit less expensive option and is popular with backpackers. Boutique hotels, like in the walled city, are abundant here and just as nice–only a lot less expensive. We stayed at the Hotel Casa Baluarte for only $41 and it was beautiful and breakfast was included!
If you happen to be in the area on Wednesday night, you are in luck. Across the street from Cafe Havana, is a salsa show. Cafe Havana is supposed to be a must see, but unfortunately we were there on a Monday night when it’s closed. I recommend you plan your visit to one of the days it’s open (Tuesday-Saturday) so you don’t miss it.
The main square comes alive at night. Â We ate at one of the nearby restaurants with outdoor seating and enjoyed all the action in the main square; from a salsa band to a “Shakira” show.
